Hello, our names are Pam & Tom Klemm and we
are Mellokat Maine Coons. We are located in
Crown Point, IN (Northwest, IN). Our
cattery and cats are registered in
ACFA,
TICA,
and
CFA.
If you have any questions about our Maine
Coons we can be contacted by e-mail at
MellokatMC@aol.com.
We will be working closely with our daughter
and son-in-law, Becky & Dave Lovall, of
Coonwyck Maine Coons
in Highland, IN. You can see their website
by clicking on their cattery name.

Mellokat Maine Coons is a
FeLV
(Feline Leukemia)
negative cattery.
***Note: Please click on FeLV for more
information.
HCM can happen in any cat,
purebred or domestic. Therefore, we
have chosen to screen our breeding cats for
hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
The testing is done by Dr. Hattie Bortnowski,
DVM; Diplomate, ACVIM; faculty of Cardiology
Dept. from the University of Wisconsin at
Madison. ***Note: Please click on HCM
for more information.
***PLEASE NOTE: Screening for HCM is
currently the recommended method to aid in
reducing the incidence of this genetic
condition in our cats. Breeders can not
guarantee that their cats will not have this
condition. However, Mellokat can guarantee
that we are dedicated to screening our
breeding cats in a continued effort to
produce healthy and sound Maine Coon cats to
the best of our ability.

Our main objective is to raise healthy,
socialized, well-adjusted cats with sweet
temperaments. We want our cats to be
confident adults, therefore, socialization
is very important to us. Our babies are
raised with lots of love and handled from
the day they are born. They are not caged
and are raised underfoot. Once the kittens
are old enough and have had their first
vaccine they are introduced to the rest of
the cat family and have the run of the
house. This is when the fun starts! :-)
Our kittens will have their vaccinations
(except for rabies) and will be checked by
our vet before they leave for their new
homes. They will be not be allowed to leave
before 13-16 weeks of age. We believe this
is in the best interest of the kittens. It
allows them more time to mature and develop
and to be with their mother and siblings for
a longer period of time. The kittens will
go to approved homes only with a sales
contract, including a spay/neuter agreement
and a health guarantee. Our kittens are
not to be declawed
or
allowed outdoors.
***Note: Please click on declawed to learn
more about declawing and why we DO NOT want
this done to our Maine Coons.
We focus on the classic pattern and
produce brown, blue, red, cream, brown
patched and blue patched tabbies, with and
without white. If you would like to read

Breed
FAQs.

patterns, and what the judges are looking
